Today marks my official first short films 2nd birthday!
Two months of planning. An eight-person cast, a crew of one — me. Then shoot day came and the whole thing collapsed. Nobody had read the script. Two of my leads didn't show up for their parts. So I gave up on shooting and spent the day just hanging out with friends at the event.
Then, halfway through a conversation with a castmate and two classmates, it hit me — 30 minutes left before my parents came to pick me up. I called to ask if they could wait so I could still save the shoot. They said no. Just make a new one, stop waiting on people.
So I asked the three of them if they were in, and we walked to the nearest empty classroom, figuring out a concept on the way.
Everything I'd filmed earlier got thrown out. In those 30 minutes, the four of us shot a whole new film — my first one. Miss-Understanding, about 6 minutes long.
Two years ago today. The two-month version never got finished. This half-hour one got almost 40,000 views in two days.
