Official Start of the 12 Month Challenge: Film
What’s The 6 Month Challenge?
On January 5, 2023 my dad made me start a 6 month challenge. Where I make as many roblox games as possible in 6 months. I ended up making 10. I kept loudly making promises that for my new year’s resolution I’d develop games. But my dad and I know myself as someone who needs external pressure to move. So that afternoon he made me sit down with a busted half overheating 2nd-hand laptop and I followed a tutorial.
The 6 month challenge was meant to force me to work under time pressure and learn as I go, since before then I haven’t made a single line of code.
Three months after the challenge ended I gained a lot of support from people I knew IRL, got a few thousand plays across all games and tried to make a collab game with a python robot scripter and another roblox dev who had a few million plays on his game, though it never continued. I even got a few commissions that earned me a few thousand robox. And even had a commissioner run away after I finished a job, never paying me my $100…
Sadly after that my activity and play count went down, and in mid 2026 my dad told me to stop playing around with roblox dev and just drop it. He made it clear it wasn’t to discourage me, but because at that point I didn’t seem to progress as a roblox dev and I’ve only produced one short film. Essentially he was telling me I need to focus on my other MAIN dream of being an executive producer, I cried it out, as being a game dev was also a dream for a while, and I erased almost every trace that I was ever a game dev in the first place. It’s taking a while to erase them all.
Ok. So now what’s the 12 month challenge?
When I made 10 games in 6 months it was fairly easy since I was alone and just needed to work on one app and device anywhere I wanted. But with film—a crew, cast, equipment, location, scheduling, and all those little bits—I need more effort and time to string things together.
So this time I’ll make as many films—or video productions—as possible in 12 months. I’m aiming for 1 production a month, and my first (or 2nd. If you count the 2024 short film) was a week ago.
I began reaching out to other organizations in school, primarily Himig, the theatre and singing org of our school. Where my sister and my friend are the president and vice president of the org.
I also found out we had a few new orgs, an investors org and a stage craft org.
I’m starting to keep note of people in Simbuhan, since I’m the (somewhat unofficial?) Production Manager.
Got some plans up my sleeve so keep track of what’s happening in Simbuhan BED on Facebook to see how I’m doing!! Or you can message me on any of my socials, I’m down to answering questions
